Week 7

Week
___________________________

This week, I thought I was going to be working out of town. Then, I wasn't. But, then I had more work to do than would fit in the week and so have spent the weekend working. In addition to that great fun, I played with my plants.

I can't believe how fast my blue hyacinth bulb bloomed. I just bought the plant last week. And, on the far left, my tropical plant is starting to recover from the neglect of the fall.

It has been a gorgeous weekend here in WI. It's not as nice as last weekend, when it was near 50 degrees. But, it has been sunny and the snow we had on Friday night has hid all of the muddy grass and dirt snow piles. I wish it were spring here. So, in between doing work, I put together what I wish I could wear right now instead of boots and a sweater.

Oh, and I went grocery shopping.

And here is me, sitting on my couch.

Week 6

This week it's valentine cards. I'd post a picture, but then the folks who are getting one wouldn't have that wonderful suprise when they open their envelopes. I like getting unexpected cards in the mail. I can't wait until I can get into my apartment and open up the card; usually I start opening it up in the elevator and when I'm walking down the hall.

I also enjoy sending cards. I like sharing that excitement with my friends and family. Most of the time, I make cards unless I find that perfect card at the store (I love Papyrus cards!). That being said, I'm horrible at figuring out what to write in them. My friend C is wonderful at writing messages that will bring a tear to your eye. Of course, she was an English major and now works for a magazine. That isn't it, though, because I was pretty much the same. I think it's because she is so sincere with her messages. I wish I could be more like her.

Finally, a note about this resolution. It's not as easy as it sounds. This past week, I was at home Monday and Thursday; the rest of the week, I was traveling. I got back yesterday morning after working a night shift, so I wanted to sleep all day. When I was home, I was washing clothes, packing and doing work. Maybe I should come up with something that I can do on the road.

Tune in next week for pictures and the new craft.

Week 5

Computer work is not my favorite. But it is less messy - no paint, glue, water, brushes, pencils, crayons, paper scraps, etc. to clean up.

A couple of things, I took my first shot at a Save the Date card for my sister's wedding. I've got some time to get it right so if anyone has any feedback on this design, leave a comment. I was going through her engagement shots and came up with this idea.

I also worked on an ad for Live Magazine.
Check them out here: http://www.livemagazinetx.com/. I've been doing a couple of ads for them since they started. It's been a lot of fun and I enjoy seeing a bit of home with each issue.

Week
________________________

I finally blogged about my first few weeks. I've made a weak showing with this resolution but I've got 48 weeks to go and I think I can do better. This week, I dressed up my blog and added the previous weeks' posts.

How do you like the header and the layout? I had fun make numbers - a combo of crayons, watercolor, paper and markers.

This one is a bit of a stretch. It's not as actively creative as I would hope, but it's a crazy week. For A and B's wedding gift, I made them a name frame. I started giving these pieces of art with my friend C. I can't claim the original idea, though. Another C friend told me of a gift someone made for her sister.
So, what I do is take pictures of things that resemble letters. I prefer not to use pictures of actual letters but there are some weird ones out there and I've had to resort to using some signage.
I've got quite an alphabet going, so all I had to do was print the pictures. I did mix it up with a little red with the black and white pictures (see below). I think it turned out great.

By the way...Hobby Lobby folks in Texas are great. I've never had a problem getting my mats cut when I was in Texas and it doesn't seem to matter where in the great state. As for other stores, I've not been too impressed with the service so far.

It's probably not a good thing that this made it into 2009, but I'm going to count it anyway. I've known for more than half a year that I was going to do the wedding programs for A and B. I've known for at least 4 months what the format of the programs was going to be. And, I finished the design 6 days before the wedding.

It's a booklet with four pages, made up of two sheets folded and glued at the top. To add some jazz, I put a rhinestone on the front of each.

P.S. Since I'm posting this after the wedding, I'll go ahead and say that there was bit of a scare when we got to the wedding and no one knew where the programs were. I was supposed to bring them from the house but didn't go back there Saturday morning. The crisis was averted and the programs were handed out, although I never found out who brought them. Thanks, whoever you are!

It is appropriate that I shared my first craft of the year with my mom and sister. They are both very creative; I guess it runs in the family.
We had a girls' night - ordered pizza, popped in a DVD and painted glasses. The glasses were for a bachelorette party for my best friend A. The plan is for everyone to take one home as a party favor. Here are some of my pieces:

Boy, am I glad that I had help! We had 24 glasses, so we each did 8. It's hard coming up with 8 different designs that people will wnat to take home.
P.S. A picked one of mine, without knowing I painted it - the one on the far left with the pink flowers and yellow base.
